A plan that could see the extensive building of both residential and commercial space in a mostly vacant part of Flagstaff is expected to see construction officially launched in early 2020. The Canyon Del Rio project will go up on some 270 acres in southeast Flagstaff at the intersection of Butler Avenue and Fourth Street. At least 45 acres of that site have already seen some apartment construction. As envisioned, the project, to be developed by the Flagstaff-based Capstone Homes, could ultimately see the construction of around 1,100 new housing units. Of that number, 600 would be apartments, with the rest single-family homes built in neighborhood settings dominated by circular suburban-type streets and open green space. The project, some three miles to the east of downtown Flagstaff, is also expected to see the building of some commercial space. The developer has said that the Canyon Del Rio homes will be priced below the Flagstaff average. According to the Arizona Daily Sun, that average currently comes in at around $375,000.
