The next step has been taken in the planned construction of a 240-unit apartment complex in Gilbert, Arizona with the purchase of the site where the project will be built. The Gilbert-based SB2-Gilbert LLC has purchased around 15 currently vacant acres at the southwest corner of S. Recker Road and E. Williams Field Road for a project designed to replicate the feel of a village-like community. What is being called the Verde at Cooley Station has been in the talking and planning stage for about a year and will include residential, retail, restaurant, and medical care space surrounding a park setting. When the project was initially announced, Norm Brody, a SB2-Gilbert partner, said the company’s goal was to build an “environmentally friendly walkable development within which to work, live, shop and play.” The green space element of the project will see the construction of a pavilion and children’s play area, along with walking and sitting space surrounded by natural landscaping and trees. Work is expected to begin on Verde at Cooley Station this fall, with a general completion date of late 2020. By Garry Boulard
