Plans have been announced for the construction of a new extended-stay 180-room hotel in downtown Colorado Springs. The project belongs to the Sage Hospitality Group, which is based in Denver, and will also include dining and meeting space. To be called the Catbird Hotel, the project is part of a series developed by Sage that includes the similarly named Catbird Hotel in Denver, which was competed and opened in 2021. The project, done in conjunction with the Colorado Springs-based Norwood Development Group, is a piece of a larger picture seeing the building of a handful of new hotels in the Olympic City. Altogether, according to the site Visit Colorado Springs, at least five major hotels have seen construction as of this summer, responding to a tourism demand that is now ongoing throughout the year. On top of that, notes the Denver Gazette, a previous ten new hotels were built in Colorado Springs between 2021 and this year. Two architectural firms, OMFGCo of Portland and Denver’s JNS Architecture + Interior Design, have been brought in to take on the design details of the new hotel. In a statement, Dennis del Olmo, Sage president, remarked: “We see tremendous potential in Colorado Springs as a dynamic destination that is welcoming business and leisure travelers.” Founded in 1984, the Sage Hospitality Group has a current stable of around 60 hotels nationally, with an emphasis on the independent and lifestyle model. If all goes as planned, work on the new Colorado Springs Catbird Hotel will begin sometime next spring, with an anticipated completion schedule in the final quarter of 2027. By Garry Boulard
